Rule 1: 1. Forming the passive
Perfect: first radical u, second radical i: كَتَبَ becomes كُتِبَ it was written. Imperfect: the prefix takes u and the second radical a: يَكْتُبُ becomes يُكْتَبُ it is / will be written. The endings are exactly those of the active, so the whole paradigm is already in your head. Whatever the active type (فَعَلَ, فَعِلَ, فَعُلَ; يَفْعُلُ, يَفْعِلُ, يَفْعَلُ), the passive has only فُعِلَ and يُفْعَلُ.
