Avoid what is forbidden, do what you can

On the authority of Abū Hurayra ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Ṣakhr, may Allah be pleased with him, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: What I have forbidden you, avoid; and what I have commanded you, do of it as much as you can. For what destroyed those before you was only their excessive questioning and their disagreeing with their prophets.
